southwest scene

small sketch of a southwest scene with one rock feature in shadow. Again a small piece 5x7. Love the way it happens with these as each brustroke means more to the others.

New Work finally. I have been doing lots but its been a while since my schedule allowed me the chance to record some of it. Sorry the photos are a bit off color wise but you should get the general idea. Little paint box sketches. This boat lost the wind and was paddling to find more.

small works

If you have not figured out it was a series of boat pictures yet then hopefully you are getting the message with this one. I am trying to do these in a series of ten over the coming weeks.

small works

Salt Marsh sketch. The white spots are 'boogers' on the scanner surface. oops. The original is sans spots

Small Works

Beached workboat waiting to be weathered into the landscape.

A boat under repair at a boatyard. At the beginning of its life or the end?

Small Works

Small boat series. These are scans so there is a fair bit of texture visible.

A series of small works. This is a foggy day at a local pier.

Small Boat Sketch seems to garner lots of attention. Very direct painting.
Demo for the class. This was done for my High School kids as a demo painting on the school grounds. Prooving that God has placed beauty all around us we just need to look for it and wonder at its splendor.
Haystack Rock Again
Small vineyard. Sonoma Valley

Small Sketch Bad Photo. Quick Sketch of a sunrise near Anacortes Wa. Am posting lots of work and should be going back in to update some comments but I just want to get it all up there.

Near Sunset California

Quick study of a sunset down south. Enjoy the boiling of the surface and the way the water relects different aspects of the sky. The deep blues of a dusk sky and the reds yellows and oranges of the pending sunset.

Summer Hike

The mountains around Mt Ranier are exceptionally beautiful. We used to go up after school and hike on the long fall days. This is near Paradise in Ranier Nat Park. The daylight in the fall is always more dramatic because the angle of the sun is lower.

Sailing Series Continued

A dramatic cloudscape at the end of a stormy day.

Sailing 3

One More in the series. The close cropping was an experiment in composition.

Westward

A series of sailing pictures. This is entered in a juried competition. Dont do that often buts it a great show in edmonds and I have had some past success there. The colors and the gesture of the sails are always fond memories of our old sailboat.

Driftwood and chaos

The random pattern of driftwood and the light near sunset are very compelling subjects. Its always a hard design problem with chaos as the subject matter.

rural farm here in washington. quick post today will embelish later

Sarah Raschick. We had to say goodbye to our faithful companion of 17 years. Did a portrait so we won't forget her.
I miss sailing sometimes so you will see me revert to this subject matter for a time or even longer. I love the patterns that the water makes forming great mounds of color and form and the light as it hits the sails both warm and cool.

River Boats in Venezuala. Like driftwood the random patterns the boats form are really fascinating. The color of the boats are tropical like the region and the dark intense color of the pinks and blues are great colors.

Slowly but surely I am catching up. This is a sunset scene from the San Juan Islands of Washington State. The sky is very colorful contrasted with the deepening blue of the water. A time that facinates me as a painter and as a viewer of the way Creation unveils something new and unique every day.

On the oregon coast. Quick sketch of the surf.

Towards Evening. This was painted as the sun was lowering on the fields.

Not the best Photo of this but my patience with my digital camera is wearing thin. It is a larger piece which was a sun and cloud day in the Napa Valley. I love the perspective of this piece. Thanks to my perspective teacher Ted Younkin.

Seagull

A Quick study of mostly the light side. Seagulls are the crows of the coast. Crafty funny and resourceful. This is a small 6x6 piece.
Fall walk with my daughter. The low light and color are truly one of my favorites. In the Northwest the greens and reds of this time of year are really a treat.
Sorry I have not been very diligent about the site. I am going to try in the new year to post stuff more regularly as well as more recent work. This small 6x6 sketch is of a musician in a street fair. I loved the geometry of the costome and the simple shapes in the folds and her head covering.
